Open-Air Preaching

Open-air preaching is primarily a sowing ministry, even though we have had several repent and be saved.

We refer to this method of preaching as being in the "stump-blasting" business, for it can provoke literally hundreds and even thousands to think about the Bible and eternal things. 

In the college towns we visit, we see people reading Bibles (many times for the first time)  in the local restaurants, student union, grass areas, etc. They talk about the open-air preaching, God, the Bible, Jesus, Heaven, Hell, Sin, etc, in the stores, classrooms, etc. Praise the Lord, they are thinking and inquiring about God!!! They would have been going on with their merry lives had the open-air preacher never shown up in town.

Isaiah 55:11 says, "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."  We have had atheists read Bibles for their first time trying to disprove something we've said. Unbeknownst to them, the Word of God is penetrating in their hearts as they read and being planted as a seed. Just as with any seed, it may lay dormant for years, until an event (perhaps the death of a friend) sparks it out of sleep.  But don't be deceived into thinking nothing has been done.  The seed was planted.
